See You At The Pole at LMPS

A little rain didn’t deter the first See You At The Pole (SYATP) event that took place at Lakeland Middle Preparatory School this morning.  Due to the inclement weather, the gathering took place under the covered area at the front of the school.  Around 40 students showed up in support of the event, which according to their website is “simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole™ is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.”

The Middle School pastor from Bellevue Baptist Church, Cory O’Hara and intern Grace were also on hand to facilitate the students in prayer and pass out donuts!  The grass roots movement started in 1990 with ten students.  Fast forward almost 30 years later and millions across the country join on the 4th Wednesday in September around their school flagpole to pray.

The event at LMPS was promoted by Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS), an extra-curricular club started by students.  It is sponsored by teacher representatives Mr. Adams, Mrs. Clemens and Ms. Washington.  The student-led group meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 7:15 am in Mr. Adams classroom.  It is open to all students and everyone is welcome to attend.  “I’m very encouraged by the turnout, especially with the bad weather.  We look forward to this becoming a tradition every September,” said Ms. Washington.
