“Season of Remembrance” ceremony Monday in Memphis is open to public

Shelby County Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich and the DA’s Victim/Witness Unit will host the 8th annual memorial commemorating lives lost to homicide and violent acts in Memphis and Shelby County at 5:30 p.m. Monday (11.26.18) at Memphis City Hall, 125 N. Main St.

This year’s “Season of Remembrance ceremony will be in City Council Chambers.  A reception and check-in for families of homicide victims will begin at 5 p.m.

The ceremony is open to the public.

Families and friends of homicide victims are encouraged to bring an ornament in honor of their loved one, regardless of the year in which their life was taken. During the ceremony families will place their ornaments on wreaths which will be displayed inside the Hall of Mayors throughout the holiday season.

A tree also will be displayed honoring each homicide victim for the current year.

“We want to publicly acknowledge the lasting importance of each life lost to violence in our community,” said Gen. Weirich. “They should never be forgotten.”

The program will include guest speaker Senior Pastor George Robertson of Second Presbyterian Church, vocalists from Cordova High School and instrumentalists from Overton High School.

The emcee will be Ursula Madden, chief communications officer for the City of Memphis.
