The May crime report for Lakeland has been released today (6.14.18) to Lakeland Currents by the SCSO (Shelby County Sheriff’s Office).
Among the 28 incidents reported is the shooting May 27 at the Oakwood Clubhouse, 10133 Matwood Oak Drive.
Lt. Kathy Crowder, SCSO, Patrol Field Bureau, Baker Shift Commander, said the investigation continues in the Lakeland shootings.
Three juvenile guests at a “Sweet Sixteen Party” were shot late on the evening of May 27 when uninvited guests showed up at the party and were denied admission to the Oakwood Clubhouse by relatives of the guest of honor. The three were taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment of gunshot wounds. They have since been released from the hospital. A fourth victim was injured when trying to escape the shooters and was taken privately to another hospital for treatment.
Although there is suspicion the shootings may have come at the hand of gang members and that many party attendees were from Cordova and Germantown High Schools, Earle Farrell, public information officer for SCSO, has confirmed neither.
Among the other crimes on the report are residential burglaries, theft from motor vehicles and shoplifting. A report from the SCSO is on the agenda of the BOC (Board of Commissioners) meeting at 5:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall, preceded by a 5 p.m. Town Hall meeting.
