UPDATE: Mayor Josh Roman tells Lakeland Currents SCSO determined the shooting appears to be an accident which caused a self-inflicted injury. No charges are expected to be filed.
Detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) are investigating a weekend shooting that left a male teenager injured.
Deputies responded to the 5900 block of Chi Chi Lane at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, where they discovered the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies immediately administered first aid until emergency medical personnel from the Shelby County Fire Department arrived. The victim was then transported to Regional One Health in non-critical condition.
Chi Chi Lane in located in South Lakeland near the Lakeland Golf Club (formarly Stonebridge). The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
