Sakura Japanese Restaurant Moving Into Old McDonalds Location

Sakura will be moving into the old McDonald's location on Canada Rd.

After sitting empty for nearly 6 years, a restaurant is moving into the old McDonalds location located next to the Mobile Gas station on Canada Road.

McDonalds closed that long standing location when they built their new restaurant on Highway 64 in Lakeland in December of 2017. Over the years there have been multiple rumors of different restaurants that might fill the space, including Tops BBQ and Jerry Lawler’s BBQ. Work has already begun inside and it’s expected to be both a sit down location as well as drive thru for food on the go.

The sign which is now on top of the building also mentions Subarashi and there is a Subarashi location on Highland in Memphis. That restaurant serves poke bowls, ramen and specialty drinks like milk teas and flavored teas. At this time it’s unclear if that is the same Subarashi that will be in the Sakura location.

Sakura currently has 3 locations in the Memphis area in Germantown, Collierville and East Memphis. According to their website they serve premium quality sushi, using fresh fish, seafood and authentic Japanese ingredients wherever possible. They also serve other traditional Japanese items like tempura, teriyaki, katsu, noodles, fried rice and more.

The restaurant is expected to open this fall.
