This event is for everyone, even non-runners, said Mrs. Wallace. “If you aren’t a runner, that’s okay! You can sign-up as a Spirit Runner to get the t-shirt, enjoy the festivities and cheer on everyone else.”
The goal of the LEF is supporting schools. “Lakeland Education Foundation is committed to helping our teachers and schools provide the highest level of education possible for the children, enabling them to reach their full potential, said Mrs. Wallace.
“But, we can’t do it without you! So come join us for the Rock-n-Roar 5K Sept. 29th at Lakeland Elementary. We will have music and food trucks and registered participants receive a custom race t-shirt.”
Mrs. Wallace said Steve Schad, a musician, will perform, along with the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) band. All 5K runners will be chip-timed.”

Businesses can support the event and schools through sponsorships. “We are absolutely still accepting sponsorships through Sept. 21,” said Mrs. Wallace. “That’s the deadline to ensure we can get them on the t-shirt. They can contact lakelandeducationfoundation@gmail.com if interested in being a sponsor.” For a fee, businesses can also set up booths at the event.
LEF was founded in 2014 by Cecil Tompkins who was its first chair and planned the 5Ks in 2015 and 2016, said Mrs. Wallace.
All monies raised by LEF will be used towards fulfilling grant requests at both LES and LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School).LEF contributed more than $27,000 to the schools in 2018, funding things for music, drama, STEM, the library, English, etc., said Mrs. Wallace.
“LEF, the LES and LMPS teachers, and most importantly, the children of Lakeland will be grateful for your support,” said Mrs. Wallace.
