Monday and Tuesday trash pickup is on tap for Republic today (1.18.18).
According to Rhonda Fink, community services representative for the City of Lakeland, the plan today is to finish Monday’s trash and Tuesday’s trash.” She asked all residents to leave carts at the curb. “We are hoping the streets are much better today.”
She said Republic reported to the City they were able to finish Friday’s recycling route and one Monday trash route yesterday. They expected to be in Lakeland at 9 a.m. today to run the other Monday trash route and two Tuesday trash routes.
As the morning progresses, Republic will provide updates to Mrs. Fink. There is no news about recycling this week which would normally be Friday (1.19.18) but was changed to Saturday (1.20.18) because of the holiday, but could be postponed because of snow and icy streets.
The trash/recycling schedule has been in a quagmire since snow first fell last Friday (1.12.18) Then there was a Monday MLK Jr. holiday and snow fell again Tuesday (1.16.18). Icing on streets prohibited the trash trucks from making rounds.
The regular “B” recycling route for last Friday was cancelled because of the snow. The Monday trash route was cancelled because of the holiday and the problems became exacerbated throughout the week. The remainder of the Monday and Tuesday trash collection is to be collected today.
