Rhonda Fink, community services representative for the City of Lakeland, says bags of leaves must weigh 35 pounds or less to be collected by Republic Services.
“The bags should contain leaves only, no mulch or dirt. If your leaves are bagged by a contractor, the contractor must dispose of the bags. This is also the rule for limbs or trees cut by contractors, it is their responsibility to dispose of the limbs and trees.
Mrs. Fink said Republic should pick up bags of leaves on scheduled trash days per section of the City. “Due to the amount of leaves in Lakeland, it has been difficult to keep up with the bags and dispose of the trash on the same day. They also have a designated truck in the area on Thursday for leaf pick-up. The residents can call City Hall to notify Republic of a need for bag pick-up” The number is 867-2217 or Mrs. Fink at 867-5409.
In addition to these services by Republic (which also collects recycling every other Friday), the City of Lakeland offers free bulk pickup at homes. The City does not pick up leaves, said Mrs. Fink.
For City bulk pickup, the first 10 cubic yards are free, $5 per cubic yard over 10, said Mrs. Fink. Appliances – $25 each. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners must be decommissioned by certified representative.
The City has other sources that will pick-up appliances containing refrigerant. Call City Hall for the phone numbers of these vendors.
“Thanks for keeping Lakeland beautiful,” added Mrs. Fink.
