Lakeland Prep’s track and field program continues to reach new heights after a standout performance at the AA State Sectionals, where the Lions qualified a record number of middle and high school athletes for the upcoming state championships.
Lakeland Prep delivered an impressive showing across multiple events, earning sectional championships in the decathlon, pentathlon, girls 100-meter dash, girls 200-meter dash, girls 4×100-meter relay, and girls 4×200-meter relay. The Lions also secured first and second place finishes in the boys pole vault, a runner-up finish in the boys discus, and second place honors in the girls 4×800-meter relay.
The results mark another significant milestone for Lakeland Prep’s rapidly growing track and field program, which has continued to expand its success and competitiveness at both the regional and state levels in recent years.

Head track coach Aleisha J. Hunter reflected on the accomplishment saying, “This is the first time in our school’s history that we have this many kids going to state for middle and high school,” Hunter wrote. “I am incredibly overjoyed. To have started this program and to see how it has blossomed has me emotional.”
With momentum on their side, the Lakeland Lions now turn their attention toward the state championships, where they will compete against some of Tennessee’s top track and field athletes. The TSSAA Track & Field State Championships will be held from May 19–21, 2026, at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
