For the sixth year in a row, there will be a prayer walk at the Lakeland Elementary and Lakeland Prep campuses.
Organized by Lakeland parents Hayden and Laura Simon, the prayer walk began as a time for families to walk the campuses together, stopping at prayer prompts along the way. Laura said, “It’s a sweet time to settle hearts and prepare minds for the first day of school.”
There are 25+ prompts placed around the exterior of the school buildings. The specific prompts cover safety, instruction, words and tone of teachers, leadership of administration, healthy friendships, wisdom for teachers and parents, anxiety and more.
The Simons say the feedback from the community over the years has been positive and that families love starting the school year in such a positive way. Some have even mentioned it’s their favorite back to school tradition. Laura said, “One of my favorite stories is when a new teacher came and said she felt such a peace after doing the prayer walk and felt more ready to greet her students in the morning.”
Another Lakeland parent Heather Reynolds, who has participated in this event over the years, said, “We have enjoyed meeting in our community to pray over the kids, teachers and all school employees as they begin their school year.”
