Christmas Cheer Over Porch Thief Arrests
It is a Merry Christmas ending for some Lakeland victims of the “porch pirates.”
Two suspects in a “porch pirate” video are in custody, according to Casey Condo who talked with both the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and the U.S. Postal Inspector to verify the arrest.
Mr. Condo was among multiple families who were robbed this week when someone followed U.S. mail, UPS or FedEx delivery trucks with packages and stole the packages right off front porches in daylight. It was his video posted to social media which caught the attention of someone who could identify the suspect.
Although some package contents were taken, others were discarded in nearby woods if the suspect did not like the items.
According to a SCSO press release shared by Lakeland resident and WMC TV journalist Chris Best, two suspects were arrested at the Wendy’s near U.S. Highway 64 and Canada Road Thursday afternoon (12.22.16). They are Dequante Hawkins, 20 and Deandre Williams, 18. For that article click here: https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/story/34121692/2-charged-with-lakeland-package-thefts

Mr. Condo added, “It ended up very good. I am glad they just aren’t out there stealing kids’ presents anymore.” He said someone used his video (from security cameras at his house) to recognize the suspect who is believed to be a local high school student. It was the video posted to the Nextdoor site, he said.
