Lakeland resident and Arlington High School (AHS) basketball player Philip Dotson was nominated last night (2.19.19) to two district basketball teams, while serving as a freshman on the AHS varsity basketball team.
His father, Phil Dotson of Lakeland, said Philip was nominated for the All-Tournament First Team for District 14AAA and District 3A 2nd Team. Philip is a freshman on the AHS varsity basketball team.
He graduated from Lakeland Middle Preparatory School (LMPS) last year. During 8th grade, he transferred to the new middle school from Arlington Middle School. The middle school in Lakeland opened in August 2017 and serves grades 5-8. High school students in Lakeland attend AHS through an interlocal agreement between the two cities until a high school is opened in the City.
Mr. Dotson said his son is the starting guard for the AHS Tigers varsity team. “He was the only freshman to not only make the varsity team, but to start and lead the team in scoring 17 points per game, “said Mr. Dotson.
The awards were presented at AHS last night, said Mr. Dotson, and the next game is Saturday in the Regional Tournament against Munford (TN) High School in Munford.
A year ago, as a member of the LMPS Lions Boys Basketball team, Philip was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Municipal Schools Regional Basketball Tournament. The eighth grade, straight A, honor student was the only Lakeland player to receive a medal for his play in the Tournament.
