Cyclists filled IH Park this morning (5.12.17) for the second annual Tour de Lakeland and Spring Festival under warm, sunny skies.
The bike-riding event was followed by Festival events including two inflatables, face-painting, free Marco’s Pizza and giveaways from businesses State Farm/Wil Ashworth and Guild Mortgage Company/Brooke Smith ReMax along with live music from “Ted Horrell and the Monday Night Card.”
During the festivities, Running Pony was shooting video around the Park for a promotional video of Lakeland. Running Pony is a full-service production and post production company in Memphis hired by the City to produce the film.
Lakeland resident Alan Johnson once again chaired the event he founded a year ago to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the natural assets of Lakeland. “Our objectives remain the same: to provide a fun community event; to encourage people/families to stay active; and for both residents and visitors to enjoy the natural assets Lakeland offers,” said Mr. Johnson. “This year we promoted the Lakeland Trails Project. Many people don’t realize that we have some awesome mountain bike and hiking trails behind IH Clubhouse and throughout Lakeland.” Also helping with the event was Lakeland resident Steve Snow.
Four rides attracted 130 bicyclists: a four-mile fun ride, 40 kilometer, 40 miles and 50 miles through scenic Lakeland and area communities.
