Seniors will end 2019 with a special New Year’s Eve event at the Lakeland Senior Center (LSC) Tuesday (12.31.19), with another special event planned Jan. 24th.
Kim Odom, LSC manager, said there will be a New Year’s Eve Potluck Luncheon starting at 11 a.m. at the IH Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Rd., next door to the LSC. Reservations can be made by calling 746-8195.
New Year’s Eve Potluck Luncheon – 11 a.m. – Tuesday (12.31.19) – IH Center
Entertainment is magician Jeffery Day provided by Creative Aging: The Golden Age of Magic (1837 – 1901), said Mrs. Odom. Most magicians have not seen or heard of the illusions that you will see in Jeffrey’s one man show, The Mesmerizist. “The Light-Heavy Chest, the Rings, “Spiritualism” (mind reading), the famous Zombie levitation and more will be performed in front of your very eyes. Prepare to be MESMERIZED. Please RSVP so we can get a count on attendance to ensure we have enough chicken for everyone.”
Western Hoedown & Chili Cook-off – 6 p.m. – Jan. 24th – IH Center
Menu will be pulled pork BBQ and plenty of fixings. To add to the fun of the western theme, we will also incorporate a Chili Cook-off during the event. It will be a judged competition. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Chili Cook-off forms will be ready by Jan. 1st.
There will also be a People’s Choice Award judged by guests of the event.
Entertainment is booked through Creative Aging: Big Barton playing classic country and western music. There will be prize giveaways and a silent auction. Advance tickets only. Cost is $10. Tickets are available at the Center Senior through Jan. 21st (or until gone). Christmas Dinner invitations never went out this year because the tickets sold so fast. Don’t wait to get your tickets! This is a fundraiser event benefiting the Senior Center. Wear your favorite western attire and come have lots of fun while raising funds for the Center.
The LSC is closed through tomorrow (12.27.19) and will reopen Monday. For additional information or questions, call 746-8195. Watercolor classes will resume Jan. 9th from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Center.
