LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) is again in the spotlight for a recent construction award given to the school as well as to the partners in constructing the middle school in 2017.
Dr. Ted Horrell, Lakeland School System (LSS) superintendent, today (1.3.19) said the middle school received the 2018 Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors in the category of institutional/educational construction in the $10-25M range.
The school received a trophy along with Renaissance Group and A2H (both Lakeland firms) and Chris Woods Construction (CWC)
LMPS opened to grades 5-8 in August 2017.
“We’re very proud that our middle school facility has now been validated twice as one that was well designed and well-constructed,” said Dr. Horrell. “The most important thing is the teaching and learning going on in the building, but a beautiful, well-built facility makes the teaching and learning more effective and efficient for our students and teachers. “
He congratulated the trophy winners as well as Southern Educational Strategies, consultants for the middle school.
This is the second award for the LMPS building. In November 2017 LMPS was named “School of the Year” for excellence in architectural design.
The Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) recognized LMPS as the statewide winner of the middle school division of its annual award. The award was presented to the design firms of Renaissance and A2H who partnered on the architectural design of the school. CWC was the general contractor on the project.
Grant Mills with CWC said the awards ceremony was Dec. 4 at The Esplanade in Memphis at a monthly gathering. The program highlights the innovation, quality and vision of a project’s entire construction team, he said.
Entries were evaluated on criteria such as complexity, attractiveness, mechanical, waterproofing and exteriors, as well as general contracting.
