National Day of Mourning Wednesday will close federal agencies including postal delivery

In honor of the late President George H. W. Bush, federal agencies will close tomorrow (12.5.18), halting postal service for the day.

By order of President Donald Trump, the country will observe a National Day of Mourning.

President Bush, the 41st president of the United States, is lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda through Wednesday. The order notes the closures represent a mark of respect for the former president.

Services impacted

  • The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver regular mail and all post office locations will be closed.
  • New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will be closed.
  • Federal offices will be closed with employees excused for work except for national security or essential public business
  • The Order will close some banks and courts, including The Supreme Court which is postponing arguments for a day.
  • Voting will be postponed in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate.

The former President died Friday (11.30.18) at the age of 94.
