He was a kind soul, a patient man, a magician with children and a wonderful presence who radiated joy, fun and smiles.
Michael Tucker of Germantown, known throughout the Lakeland and Memphis communities as Mr. Mike the Balloon Man, died Monday (6.8.20). Private funeral services were Friday.
Since 2015 the beloved and talented creator of balloon animals had been a staple of entertainment for Lakeland LAMP concerts as well as festivals for Halloween and Christmas, said Kim Odom, special events coordinator and Senior Center director for Lakeland.
“Mr. Mike the Balloon Man will be missed by the Lakeland community. The parents appreciated him almost as much as the kids did.
“The friendly balloon artist was always a hit during the annual Christmas Festival, Halloween Festival or the LAMP’s Summer Concert Series since 2015.
“He had a big heart when it came to the kids. He made everyone that talked to him feel special. Our community-wide events will not be the same without him. Mr. Mike as the kids simply like to call him, will never be forgotten in Lakeland!”
Mrs. Odom said Michael’s son, David Tucker, will fulfill any bookings his dad had on the books. “David has helped his dad with the business many times. He has been side by side with his dad during a couple of Lakeland’s community-wide events. He is ready to continue his dad’s legacy.”
