The recommended preliminary development amendment for Winstead Farms was approved.
For item number two, exterior façade improvements were approved for the Country Bridge Shopping Center at 9020-9050 U.S. Highway 64 with conditions. Board members want canopy colors for the entire center to be consistent. The site plan called for green canopies over Sprouts Farmers Market. The other canopies, including new tenant Aspire Fitness, are black.
The Board also requested landscaping of the shopping center be updated, specifically mentioning dead or dying shrubs, and maintenance of the parking lot and entrances.
On the third item of new business, Board members voted five to one in favor of an amended ordinance which would amend Lakeland Development Regulations for building type standards. There were three parts to the ordinance: one dealing with brick size; one with window type; and one with type of roof.
Board members voted to exclude the requirement about the brick size and type of windows and only approved the change to roof shingles, from three tab shingles to architectural shingles for a 25-year roof, not 30-year. Board members felt they didn’t have enough information to make a decision about the windows. Regarding the concern over king-sized bricks versus a smaller brick, Board members felt that decision should depend on the frontage width of a house and might be better handled at the covenant or subdivision level.
Items four and five were deferred to future meetings: amendments to the Lakeland Tree Maintenance ordinance; and a presentation by Commissioner Wesley Wright on architectural ideas for Lakeland.
