You’re not alone.
Many in the City took to social media today (12.17.17) to question why their trash and/or recycling had not be collected by Republic Services.
City Manager Jim Atkinson explained:
“As many of you know, Republic did not complete recycling collection last Friday (12.22.17). As of this morning (12.27.17), they are mostly caught up on recycling. However, they did not complete trash collection in some areas that were scheduled for yesterday (Tuesday).
“According to Republic, they are working today (Wednesday) to get caught up on the missed pick-ups. These delays and missed pick-ups are completely unacceptable, and the City is dealing with Republic to correct their performance deficiencies, or face contract termination.
“We will continue monitoring their progress through today.
“If you still have not received service, feel free to let us know by calling City Hall and speaking with Rhonda, 867-2717. Also remember that trash collection is delayed one day this week due to the Christmas holiday.” Trash will also be delayed a day next week because of New Year’s Day.
“They collected more than half the scheduled route last Friday, but didn’t finish,” said Mr. Atkinson.
He said Republic is also required to pick up all trash blowing around the neighborhoods caused by cans sitting out overnight last night.
He added, “I’m reviewing the contract now (with Republic). But we have seen more frequent misses over the last few months. Gerry Burke with Republic is coming in next week to discuss.”
