In an email sent to the parents of Lakeland School System students on August 19, 2021, the school system announced that they can begin testing students and faculty that have been quarantined due to exposure.
In part, the email stated, “BinaxNow rapid tests are now available at no cost to our students and faculty members. We are only able to test current students enrolled at LES and LPS, no family members will be tested.”
This is an effort to minimize the loss of in-person instruction days due to an exposure quarantine. The students can be tested on day 5 and with a “clear” test, return to school on day 8.
Lakeland Currents reached out to Superintendent Ted Horrell who said, “Thanks to a grant from the Tennessee Department of Education, we’re able to hopefully add some additional convenience for our parents, students and faculty members. Testing is an extremely helpful tool in reducing the spread of COVID-19, so this supports our goals of keeping schools open this year and keeping students and staff safe.”
There is a testing procedure protocol in place that was outlined in the email. If you have further questions, please reach out to your child’s respective school:
