“If you want it, come and get it” sang the LSS (Lakeland School Superintendent) today (4.1.20) via social media as he announced the optional remote learning resources for students who are “Safer at Home” because of COVID-19.
The guitar-playing-singing-coat-and-tie-pajama-bottom-fuzzy slippers-wearing Dr. Ted Horrell took a light-hearted approach to introduce the LSS Remote Learning Hub which is online and available for students and parents to access optional learning activities during the coronavirus quarantine.
Dr. Horrell announced last week Lakeland schools will be closed at least through April 24th. However, he said it is highly likely a longer closure will be necessary.

The words vary a bit from the original 1970 song, “Come and Get it.” If you want it, here it is, come and get it, lots of activities for you to do. If you want it, here it is, you can get it, you can keep learning while you’re out of school.
There was a bit of a glitch for LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) students and parents. “Please be aware that Schoology is having nationwide connectivity issues as an increasing number of students’ access remote learning. We hope these issues are short-term, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Our best recommendation is to continue to try connecting throughout the day.”
Online registration for kindergarten, new student enrollment
Also announced today was online enrollment for kindergarten and new student enrollment for the 2020-21 school year.
“Please reference the Lakeland School System website, www.lakelandk12.org > parents > registration (or follow the link below) for important information and instructions,” said Dr. Horrell.
For assistance accessing the online enrollment portal, contact Cindy Smith, student information system coordinator, 867-7071, ext. 5033 or csmith@lakelandk12.org
“We’re looking forward to meeting all of our new Lakeland Lions when we’re on the other side of this!”
