LSC activities for March and April

Kim Odom, manager for the LSC (Lakeland Senior Center) has posted new and continuing events for the months of March and April.

Continuing are watercolor classes on Thursdays.  New are movie days, a sewing class and a seniors 55+ dinner with a sock hop theme.

“Please RSVP as soon as possible if required. Some activities are limited due to space and/or supplies. You can register for all activities by calling 746-8195,” said Mrs. Odom.

New Sewing Class
1st Tuesdays of the month – March 5, April 2 – 10 a.m. Instructor is Jerry Turnipseed. Limited kits available. RSVP.

FREE Weekly Diabetes Classes
Wednesdays through April 3 – 10 to 11:30 a.m. Diabetes Education and Empowerment Program (DEEP) presented by Qsource. Topics are:  Diabetes and the Human Body; Risk Factors; Coping with Diabetes; Monitoring and Exercise; Complications; Nutrition; Medication and Graduation. Register.

Safety Tips for Seniors
March 6 – Noon. A representative with the TN Dept. of Commerce and Insurance will speak to seniors on safety with a variety of topics and tips. Free giveaways will be handed out. RSVP.

Watercolor Classes
Thursdays – March 7 – April 25 – 1-3 p.m. Learn how to work with watercolor presented by Gail Bishop. Paper provided. Bring your own watercolors, brushes, trace paper and micron pen. Limited supplies will be on hand. Seating is limited. Register.

Mexican Train is returning
Second Friday of the month – March 8, April 12 – 10 a.m. A new group is forming. Come play a timeless classic.

Movie Day
March 12 – 12:30 p.m. Bring a friend and enjoy movie and popcorn. Feel free to bring your own snacks. Movie: TBA. Call 746-8195.

Seniors 55+ Dinner 50s Sock Hop Theme
March 15 – 6 p.m. – IH Clubhouse  Join us at the hop as we take a trip down memory lane with fun food, great music, and games and prizes. Menu will be burgers, condiments, loaded baked potato salad, chips, assorted cookies and brownies and tea, catered by Pink Flamingo. Entertainment will be Jim Mahannah Band provided by Creative Aging.  For fun, guests are invited to dress up for the occasion. Best Dressed wins a prize! Advance Tickets Only. Cost is $10 person. Tickets available at Lakeland Senior Center. Deadline for tickets is March 8. Can pay by credit card by contacting Kim Odom at 746-8195.

Dixon Colorcopia
March 19 – 11 a.m. to noon Dixon Gallery Gardens presents Drawing for Beginners. Supplies provided. Limited space. Must RSVP.

Easter Bunny Craft
April 9 – 11 a.m. Make a no-sew Easter Bunny instructed Penny Malone. Supplies provided. Limited to 15. RSVP.

Potluck Luncheon
April 10 – 11:30 a.m. with music by Paulmand & Weir provided by Creative Aging. Must RSVP.
