In a fifteen-minute meeting today (9.7.17), the Lakeland School Board (LSB) unanimously approved six items including cancellation of the regular September business meeting next week.
Dr. Ted Horrell, Lakeland School System (LSS) superintendent, will be attending a superintendents’ conference Sept. 11 in Gatlinburg, so he asked the Board to move the meeting date. The work session (usually the first Monday) was cancelled because of Labor Day. The business meeting was rescheduled for today.
The other topics:
The Board approved a 2017-18 budget amendment to add another technology staff member solely for LSS. The new hire would rotate between the two Lakeland schools and help teachers with technology issues.
There was an amendment approved for the 2017-18 salary schedule to hire a backup registered nurse for the school system. This person would be “on call” as needed, like a substitute teacher. Pay will be $24 an hour. Dr. Horrell said he has a candidate available for this slot.
The next item approved was for school support organizations like sports booster programs, the Lakeland Education Foundation and the PTO. All are required to submit paperwork annually.
The final two actions on the agenda were to approve policy committee members (Dr. Horrell recommended the instructional facilitators) and an amendment to this year’s fee schedule, adding a cross country fee.
