Excitement is buzzing at Lakeland Preparatory School (LPS) as the school’s Theatre Company gears up for its upcoming production of “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.” Set to captivate audiences with its youthful energy and mythological charm, this rendition promises to be a standout performance from the talented students of grades 7 through 10 beginning April 4 and running through April 7.
Based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling novel, the musical adaptation follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a young demigod who discovers his divine heritage and embarks on a quest to prevent a war among the gods. With its blend of humor, heart, and high-octane action, the production is sure to resonate with audiences of all ages.
Under the co-direction of Jeff White and Alison Garland, the LPS Theatre Company has been hard at work rehearsing and preparing for their moment in the spotlight. From set design to choreography, every aspect of the production has been meticulously crafted to showcase the talents of the school’s budding performers.
Prepare to be immersed in a new dimension of live performance as our upcoming musical production breaks away from pre-recorded tracks, bringing an authentic and dynamic energy to the stage like never before by adding musicians. According to Tate Hansen, the musical director, “choosing to have live musicians allows actors on stage to take much more artistic liberties and allows them to better bring their characters to life.” The band, conducted by Mr. Hansen, will feature piano, two electric guitars, bass guitar, and drums.
The cast is led by a group of talented young actors, including Jacob Mans in the role of Percy Jackson. With their infectious energy and stage presence, they are sure to bring Riordan’s beloved characters to life in spectacular fashion. Accompanying them are a talented ensemble of performers portraying gods, monsters, and mortal allies, each adding their own flair to the production. Percy’s best friends, Grover and Annabeth, are played by Bonnie Phelan and Naima Harper-Bey.
As the opening night approaches, anticipation is running high among the LPS community and beyond. Friends, family, and supporters are eagerly awaiting the chance to witness the culmination of months of hard work and dedication on stage.
With its infectious music, engaging story, and talented cast, “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” promises to be a theatrical event not to be missed. So mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and prepare to be swept away on a mythic adventure unlike any other, courtesy of Lakeland Preparatory School’s Theatre Company.
