The LPS Marching Band concluded another successful marching band season last Saturday at the Division 1 State Band Championships. Throughout the season, this group of 8th graders, freshmen, and sophomores competed with full high school band programs at multiple competitions. In its short history, the LPS Marching Band has proven itself to be one of the most revered programs in the state. Here are some of the results from the past marching season:
South Gibson Hornet Invitational:
2nd in class AA, 1st percussion, 3rd guard
4th overall, 4th Percussion Overall, 4th guard overall
Arlington Open Invitational:
1st Place Gold division, 2nd place percussion and guard
3rd place overall, 4th place percussion overall, 3rd place guard overall
Collierville Tournament of Champions:
2nd place Class 1A, 1st place percussion, 2nd place guard
Championships at Bartlett Station:
3rd place class 2A
Tennessee Division I State Championships:
Prelims, 4th place overall, 1st percussion
Finals, 6th place overall, 2nd percussion
While trophies are wonderful, what the directors are most proud of is the progress of each individual student during the season. These students grew in dedication, determination, and musical excellence and made each performance better than the last. The last performance in the Division 1 State Band Championship left the audience speechless, especially when they realized the age of our band.
Planning has already begun for the next marching season and we are very excited to see what this eager and tenacious group of students will do next!
