Lakeland Preparatory School’s cross country team ran the last race of their 2021 season last weekend at the Youth Athletics State Championship in Knoxville, TN. The team is coached by teachers Amy Gunnell, Stacey McGoldrick and Keith Adams.
The girls team, led by 8th grade team captains Maui Boles and Silvia Arana, is the first team from Lakeland to qualify for this event. After finishing 2nd in the Class AA West Tennessee Sectional Meet, the team also competed in the TMSAA State Championship in Clarksville. Maui finished 5th at the sectional meet and 21st at the state meet, identifying her as the top runner from West Tennessee.
The LPS boys team, led by 8th grade captains Clark Wade and Davis Hardee, lost a strong group of runners after last season as they moved on to high school. Clark qualified individually for the TMSAA State meet and several others stepped up with promising growth throughout the season.
Coach Amy Gunnell told Lakeland Currents, “We look forward to the future of this team, and spending more time with these incredible student athletes.”
