Art students from Lakeland Preparatory School have once again been recognized for their talents with 36 art pieces entered into the prestigious West Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition. The elite competition is open to students, grades 6-12, attending public, private, or home schools in the counties of West Tennessee.
The competition receives over 1500 entries and then narrows it down to about 200 pieces for the show. Lakeland Preparatory School has 36 works in the show this year, more than any other organization, which totaled almost 20% of the artwork. LPS students also won several of the top awards at the competition and students will be going to view the show on Friday, Feb. 16th at the Art Center located in Humboldt, TN.
According to LPS visual art teacher, Jared Parham, the recognition was significant saying, “If it was a teacher competition or school competition, we would have won. We have the most work and most awards in the show.”
According to their website the West Tennessee Regional Art Center takes pride in being Tennessee’s only permanent fine arts museum between Nashville and Memphis. Our goal is to make our gallery, with all of its cultural and educational significance, easily accessible for teachers and students.
