On Friday, Lakeland Preparatory School released the schedule for TCAP testing this spring.  TCAP, or the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program, is the annual standardized testing utilized by the State of Tennessee to reflect what students in grades 3-8 have learned throughout the school year.

Due to Covid-19 and remote learning that took place from March of 2020 through the end of the school year, testing for 2020 throughout the State was cancelled.  According to the Tennessee Department of Education, it’s back on track for this year and will take place between April 26th – May 7th.

In an email sent to parents of students, Principal Matt Adler provided the following schedule:

“The 2021 Lakeland Preparatory School TCAP testing window will be from April 26th to May 7th. Due to social distancing requirements, we will need to test our students in two groups. Group A will be all 5th and 7th graders, and Group B will be all 6th and 8th graders. Students will be testing in the morning as well as in the afternoon.

During the week of April 26th – April 30th, Group A (all 5th and 7th graders) will test at school. Group B (all 6th and 8th graders) will remain at home for asynchronous virtual learning (students will have work to complete but will not have live instruction).

During the week of May 3rd – May 7th, Group B (all 6th and 8th graders) will test at school. Group A (all 5th and 7th graders) will remain at home for asynchronous virtual learning (students will have work to complete but will not have live instruction).

Make up testing will be completed May 10th – May 14th.”

Regarding the schedule, Lakeland School System Board Member Laura Harrison stated, “In order to accommodate social distancing requirements and testing regulations, LPS will have alternating weeks of remote learning for all students during the TCAP testing period. It’s not ideal or preferred, but it’s necessary to ensure student and faculty safety for completing the state mandated testing.”
