Local sales tax revenue in Lakeland grew 6.5% last year

Michael L. Walker, CPA and finance and human resources director for Lakeland, has released local options sales tax revenues for Lakeland in calendar year 2019, noting it is just under $900,000.

“Based upon this trend, local option sales tax revenues for fiscal year 2020 should reach nearly $940,000, which is 21% higher than budgeted for the fiscal year,” said Mr. Walker.

“Based on the previous five years, the local option sales tax revenues for the City are highest in the month of December, followed by June and July.  With continued economic developments such as the Lake District and Lakeland Commons, the City expects continued growth in local option sales taxes.”

Mr. Walker provided various charts and graphs, comparing sales tax numbers from 2014 through 2019, showing the increases year-over-year.
