It was a journey around the world to different places in time for the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) Orchestras last night (2.27.20) in the Gymnasium.
The Beginning Orchestra and Concert Orchestra each played three pieces for parents and friends as part of the Once Upon A Time themed evening.
Paula Bert Turner, director, said, “We’ve had such a great seven weeks. Everyone has learned so much. Let us take you away tonight and tell your some stories through music.”
Student narrators included Ayanna Patterson, Santiago Gonzales, Emma Boyd, Mackenzie Timbs, Grace Choi and Rachel Taube. At the beginning of each piece, Mrs. Turner shared details about the music.

The Concert Orchestra previewed the pieces they will perform for regional adjudication at the March 11th Concert Festival.
Between the two Orchestras’ concerts, Jodi Davis, president of the LMPS Orchestra Boosters, shared dates on upcoming events for the students:
- March 11th – WTSBOA (West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association) Concert Festival – Kate Bond Middle School
- April 4th – WTSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival – Elmore Park Middle School
- April 25th – Cannon Center for the Performing Arts Lobby Performance – 7 p.m.
- May 7th – Spring Concert and Ice Cream Social – LMPS Gym – 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Turner said the Booster officers are known as the Fab 4, as she thanked them for all they do.
As is tradition, audience members were urged to write Applause-a-Grams, filled with words of congratulations and encouragement to the students in the orchestra.
Attendees cheered and applauded the students with a standing ovation at the end of the evening.
Donations were accepted to benefit a newly formed Summer Music Camp Scholarship Fund sponsored by the Boosters.
