It’s been a “Superior Day” for members of the LMPS seventh and eighth grade honors treble choir.
The 24-member choir received superior ratings today (4.6.18) during an evaluation at Colonial Middle School by the WTVMEA (West Tennessee Vocal Music Educators Association) in the Junior High Choral Festival.
Tonya Miller, choir director, said “The Choir was evaluated using the following categories: intonation, diction, rhythmic accuracy, interpretation, overall musical effect, stage presence and choice of music. For each of these categories, the choir received straight ones.”
In addition, the choir received a superior rating in Performance and in Sight Reading, said Mrs. Miller.
The Choir selections for the Festival were “Lux Aeterna” by Christi Miller and “Sigh, No More” by Ruth Morris Gray, added Mrs. Miller.
She and LMPS are extremely proud of the children’s hardwork and dedication.
The Student Choir is in its first year, since the middle school (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) opened in August 2017.
Mrs. Miller said WTVMEA in charge of the large group performance evaluation each year for middle and high school choirs. She noted that her “very dedicated” students have practiced at least 20 times at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
LMPS serves grades 5-8. Lakeland Elementary School has grades K-4. Lakeland students attend Arlington High School through an interlocal agreement, until a high school is built in Lakeland.
