“Orchestra Heroes” was the theme as the two LMPS orchestras took to the stage last night (2.21.19) at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland.
The mid-winter concert featured three pieces by the Beginning Orchestra, four by the Concert Orchestra.
Paula Bert Turner is the director of the orchestras at Lakeland Middle Preparatory School (LMPS) and was outfitted in hero fashion with a red and blue cape. She said she hoped parents, family and friends could see the growth in the student performers. “Our goal is to bring you a lot of different music,” she added.
Each musical piece tied into the theme in its own unique way from honoring heroic events to highlighting heroic composers to celebrating heroic musical efforts from the students themselves, according to Mrs. Turner.
Jodi Davis, president of the LMPS Orchestra Booster Executive Board, started the evening by thanking sponsors and supporters.
Four students introduced the musical pieces: Hayat Aidarous, Gezelle Madduma, Joel Madden and Sofia Rivera.
Sebastian Davis, a member of the Beginning Band, was recognized for his recent switch in instruments, from cello to bass.
There are 29 students in the Concert Orchestra, 26 in Beginning Orchestra.
