The LMPS seventh and eighth grade honors treble choir will be evaluated by the WTVMEA next week, according to Tonya Miller, LMPS choir director.

The assigned time for choir members to perform is 12:15 p.m. April 6 at Colonial Middle School (CMS) in Memphis.

WTVMEA is the West Tennessee Vocal Music Educators Association, said Mrs. Miller, and is in charge of the large group performance evaluation each year for middle and high school choirs.

Mrs. Miller said there are 24 members of the LMPS honors choir.  “These students have met for approximately 20 rehearsals at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. They are extremely dedicated.

“We will meet next week on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for rehearsals with the accompanist, Ellen Koziel, in the choir room, said Mrs. Miller.

Earlier this month, the LMPS Band and Orchestra received superior and excellent ratings at the Concert Festival at Memphis schools.

Anneliese Land, LMPS band director, said both ensembles received superior ratings in sight-reading.

“The band earned excellent ratings on stage at Colonial Middle School and the orchestra earned superior ratings on stage at Cordova High School (CHS),” said Mrs. Land.

Paula Turner is director of the Orchestra.

The competition was sponsored by the West Tennessee Band and Orchestra Association (WTSBOA).

LMPS serves grades 5-8 and opened to students in August 2017.  LES serves grades K-4. Students attend Arlington High School through an interlocal agreement until a high school is built in Lakeland.
