Dwarfed by the 30-foot lavishly decorated Christmas tree, the 54-member fifth-grade Mane Melody Singers once again entertained a standing-room only crowd in the Grand Lobby of the Peabody Hotel today (11.29.18).
It was the second consecutive year for the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) choir to be invited, along with LMPS Choir Director Tonya Miller, to present Christmas songs in the famous lobby in downtown Memphis.
The middle school opened in August 2017 and was extended an invitation to perform at The Peabody for Christmas 2017. And the special events coordinator for The Peabody, Tommie Pardue, invited Mrs. Miller and her fifth graders back to be in the spotlight this year.
The students performed about 20 minutes of choreographed holiday songs and hymns, repeating the program several times this morning for parents, grandparents and guests at The Peabody.
Hotel staff served refreshments before students headed for lunch and then to the Elmcroft Assisted Living Home in Bartlett. They sang and provided gift bags for the 53 residents.
Students throughout the grades 5-8 school brought in small items to fill goodie bags and made holiday cards and decorated brown paper sacks for the gifts.
