The LMPS Battle of the Books team (BOTB) will compete at 4:15 p.m. March 22nd in the finals at Houston Middle School in Germantown.
The 23-member team from Lakeland Middle Preparatory School (LMPS) won two-for-two in completion Feb. 20 in the middle school library against Riverdale/Germantown and Arlington.
The competition is part of the Shelby County Area Wide Middle School Battle of the Books.
The contest encourages independent reading for students in grades 5-8. Students read 10 preselected books and during February and March, demonstrate their knowledge of the books by answering comprehensive content questions during game-show type competition against other participating middle schools.
LMPS opened for the 2017-18 school year to grades 5-8. Last year, the BOTB team won the County Championship, according to Bethany Christy, LMPS librarian and one of the sponsors. Melissa Richarde, ELA (English Language Arts) teacher, is the second sponsor of the BOTB program.
