Both the Band and Orchestra at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) received superior and excellent ratings at the Concert Festival at Memphis schools this week.
Anneliese Land, LMPS band director, said both ensembles received superior ratings in sight-reading.
“The Band earned excellent ratings on stage at Colonial Middle School (CMS) and the Orchestra earned superior ratings on stage at Cordova High School (CHS),” said Mrs. Land
“All of these students have worked diligently for the entire quarter in preparation for these performances.”
Paula Turner is director of the Orchestra.
The competition was sponsored by the West Tennessee Band and Orchestra Association (WTSBOA).
Mrs. Land said 32 middle school bands performed at CMS March 6, 7 while 25 middle school orchestras performed at CHS March 6-8.
“A panel of four professional musicians offered constructive comments to all ensembles and assigned the performances a rating of I, II, III, IV or V, based on the quality of preparation and performance,” said Mrs. Land. “A score of I means “Superior”; a score of II means “Excellent”; and a score of III means “Good”. These three ratings signify that a band or orchestra is achieving at grade level or beyond.
LMPS opened to students in grades 5-8 August 2017. Lakeland Elementary School serves grades K-4. Through an interlocal agreement, students living in Lakeland attend Arlington High School until a high school is built in Lakeland.
