Work is underway for athletic fields at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School).
The project is to include:
- Artificial turf football field with lights
- Regular turf soccer field with lights
Dr. Ted Horrell, superintendent of the Lakeland School System, said the hope is to have some of the end-of-the-season LMPS football games on the home field.
Money to build the fields comes from $3+ million in excess funds left from bond proceeds on building the Middle School in 2017.
There is also work upcoming at LES (Lakeland Elementary School).
A secure building entrance and parking lot work is to be completed by Aug. 1 in time for the new school year.
The summer work is part of a $2.7 million project to add 12 classrooms, expansion of the cafeteria, resurfacing and striping of the parking lot and landscaping. The classrooms and cafeteria expansion won’t be finished until February 2019.
