Eleven LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) 8th graders took a spring break adventure last week to watch history come to life.

The students traveled to Washington D.C. and Virginia March 9th-11th as part of what is hoped will be an annual tradition at the school.

Melissa Richarde, ELA (English Language Arts) teacher at LMPS, said the students visited Smithsonian Museums, Capitol Hill, the White House, Ford’s Theater, Washington Monument, Holocaust Museum,  Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon and nine memorials.

“Our students absolutely loved seeing history come to life through this opportunity,” said Mrs. Richarde.  “We hope to turn this initial trip into an LMPS tradition that 8th graders can look forward to for years to come.’

She said, “We began hosting interest meetings for the optional trip in May 2018,” said Mrs. Richarde.  “Interested families signed their student(s) up through our travel partner, WorldStrides.”

Planning has already begun for the 2020 optional 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Spring Break Trip.  Mrs. Richarde said current 7th graders/rising 8th graders will bring home a sample itinerary this week and parents are invited to attend an informational meeting at 6 p.m. March 26th in the LMPS library.
