The day started with a bit of guitar-playing and then some Glee Club songs to open the “LES Leaders Soar” Club Showcase Friday morning (5.10.19) at Lakeland Elementary School (LES).
Principal Joretha Lockhart said it was a first at LES and students were excited to present. She thanked the LES PTA for providing funds for the 16 clubs at the school. “It’s all about the children today.”
Thirty-five of the 83 Glee Club members were on stage to present a song while the 26-member Guitar Club sang two songs.
Representatives of 16 clubs at LES (Lakeland Elementary School) welcomed community and PTA guests this morning to the “LES Leaders Soar” Club showcase. The event not only focused on the clubs but on student leaders. Following the remarks and music, there were Superhero tour sessions with Hulk, Batman, Superman, Flash, Captain America, Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman.

Sixty community leaders and PTA representatives were invited to tour the 16 club stations arranged throughout school halls. At each station, club members provided an overview of their club and its activities. “But,” said Mrs. Lockhart, “The VIPs today are the children.”
Commissioner Wesley Wright attended along with School Board Members Geoff Hicks and Deborah Thomas and Dr. Ted Horrell, Lakeland School System superintendent.
Tonya Carson is a first grade teacher and a member of the LES LEAD (Leadership, Education and Development) Team which organized the event. The LEAD team is a group of teachers that work on leadership and development within the school.” For example, we planned the Blue Ribbon celebration, oversee professional development and additional jobs within the school,” according to Ms. Carson.
