This year, the Lakeland Elementary School drama club is back IN PERSON with their performance of Willy Wonka Kids! Last year’s show was recorded without a live audience due to Covid-19 restrictions. Performances are at LES on Friday, February 11th at 6:00pm and Saturday, February 12th at 4:00pm. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance and tickets are $5 each.
Under the direction of music teacher Robin Smith and assisted by 4th grade teacher Angie Todd, there are 48 kids in the cast (ranging from Kindergarten to 4th grade), 8 backstage crew and 7 on a set design crew.
The handmade costumes are by 2nd grade teacher Kristen Nichols, set design is led by art teacher Mitzi Igelharte, choreography is provided by Grayson Todd and the playbill is designed by Alyson Bogue.
The kids auditioned in October by submitting audition videos of recorded monologues, songs and a dance routine. They have been rehearsing before school ever since. Parent helper Lauren Baird told Lakeland Currents, “These kids have worked very hard and are thrilled to be performing in front of a live audience. We adapted last year to give them a great experience but nothing feels as good as real theater!”
The drama club is excited to have just been approved to be an independent booster club. They have had parents step up to fill roles on the board to ensure a great year for the kids. Roles include President – Lauren Baird, VP – Ashley Pearcy and Treasurer – Diane Laster. They are grateful for their amazing sponsors, especially Frost Bake Shop, their executive sponsor).
