It wasn’t normal, but it was better than nothing. For the first (and last) time this season a LAMP concert was held this past Saturday evening (September 26, 2020) at IH Clubhouse on Canada Rd. In what’s become a fun Lakeland tradition, there’s normally 4 or 5 LAMP concerts held throughout the summer and fall months. But due to the Coronavirus, the 2020 concert slate was put on hold back in the spring. However, Lakeland Parks and Rec moved forward with Saturday’s concert with many limitations in place.
The crowd was very limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and large boxes were spray-painted on the amphitheater grounds indicating where chairs and blankets could be placed. Those measures were deemed necessary to keep concert goers spread out. The limited tickets were first come, first serve when released several weeks ago by the city. There was also no food trucks or concessions offered this time.
Playing once again was local group The Dantones. Due to the smaller than usual crowds the band took request from individuals which was unusual from concerts past. The smaller crowd seemed to enjoy that.
When contacted about the possibility of another LAMP concert in 2020, Pat O’Mara, Lakeland Parks and Recreation Director, said he doubts there will be another concert this season. Mr. O’Mara said, “We have no concrete plans to run another LAMP event this year, but we’re always looking for ways to maximize the use of the LAMP.” He said the next event at the LAMP amphiteater is October 23. That will be Tennessee Shakespeare Company’s production of Romeo and Juliet. The show will begin at 7 pm.
