The City of Lakeland has announced its annual community clean up day is scheduled for Saturday, April 20th, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lakeland public works yard. The public works yard is located behind City Hall on Highway 70.
This year, the community clean up day comes with a change. To coincide with the Lakeland yard sale event, the city has organized two weekends in April for residents to declutter their homes and yards. The community clean up day was strategically moved to the weekend after the yard sale so that any unsold items can be conveniently brought to the clean-up drive-through.
The event provides an opportunity for residents to dispose of unique items that are often challenging to get rid of. However, participants must provide proof of residency to take advantage of this service. Accepted items include yard waste/limbs, mattresses/box springs/bed frames, indoor and outdoor furniture, fencing, appliances (professionally decommissioned with paperwork), computers, computer accessories, cables, cords, speakers, phones, gaming systems, TVs, and most other electronics.
Items that will not be accepted include oils, paints, anti-freeze, pesticides, herbicides, chemicals, railroad ties, fluorescent bulbs, light bulbs, and non-decommissioned appliances. For clarification on items not listed, residents are encouraged to contact Rebecca Hume at 901-867-5409.
For those unable to drop off items at the public works yard, Lakeland offers a regularly-scheduled bulk waste collection service that runs routes looking for items to pick up. Some items may require a scheduled pick-up, as detailed on the city’s website.
Make sure to mark your calendars and take advantage of this opportunity to tidy up your space and contribute to a cleaner home and a cleaner Lakeland!
