Lakeland Town Square is set to expand with two exciting new business additions. That according to developer Vince Smith who recently updated the Lakeland Industrial Development Board on the progress of the mixed used development on Highway 70. Mr. Smith unveiled tentative plans for a new ice cream concept and a new restaurant although names of the establishments were not provided, nor was anticipated opening dates.

Located diagonally across from The Owners Box Bar and Grille, the new ice cream shop promises to be a nostalgic walk-up venue with charming architecture reminiscent of Tastee-Freez. “I think it’s going to look pretty cool. It’s kind of an old-fashioned walk-up (with) really great architecture,” Smith remarked.

Lakeland Town Square, situated between Highway 70 and Seed Tick Road, is in the midst of its second and final construction phase. Smith revealed that two new restaurant operators have signed letters of intent in phase two, although specific names remain under wraps. Mr. Smith hinted one was a notable player from the Memphis market planning to open a higher-end restaurant in the development, occupying 6,000 square feet of commercial space. Additionally, an Asian-themed restaurant is also in the works.

A new liquor store is expected to open in Lakeland Town Square this fall. The name of the store has not been announced at this time.

In an effort to enhance community engagement within Lakeland, Smith also announced the dedication of a separate parcel in Phase 2 to the city. This space will feature a pavilion designed for farmers markets and special events.

The development has seen early success and continues to grow, with 20 townhomes currently under construction and plans for an additional 30. Approximately 250 apartments are also part of the project. Among the outparcels, a liquor store is already under construction and expected to open by the end of the year. One outparcel remains available, with hopes to attract another freestanding restaurant.
