Lakeland School System Superintendent Ted Horrell received high marks in his annual performance evaluation from the Lakeland School Board, earning an overall score of 4.6 out of 5. Following the review, board members voted to begin negotiations on a contract extension, which is expected to be presented for consideration at the board’s July meeting.

The evaluation gathered feedback from board members and faculty and assessed Horrell’s performance in several key areas, including leadership, strategic vision, board relations, communication, operational and financial management, student achievement, and ethics.

The positive evaluation comes during a landmark year for the Lakeland School System as the district celebrated the graduation of its first senior class. The milestone marks the culmination of the district’s transformation from a K-5 school system into a fully operational K-12 district.

Since being named the district’s first superintendent in 2013, Horrell has overseen significant growth and development across the school system. Major projects completed during his tenure include the construction of Lakeland Middle Preparatory School and the expansion of Lakeland Preparatory High School, helping accommodate the district’s rapidly growing student population.

Under Horrell’s leadership, the Lakeland School System has earned Exemplary School District status from the Tennessee Department of Education on multiple occasions. He has also received statewide recognition for his contributions to public education, including being named Southwest Tennessee Superintendent of the Year and Tennessee Superintendent of the Year.
