The Lakeland Senior Center (LSC) is planning a slow reopening Monday (6.8.20), according to Kim Odom, LSC manager.
The facility at 4527 Canada Road has been closed since March 13th due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the interim, Mrs. Odom has emailed “Chatterbox” newsletters to seniors and also started some of the LSC attendees on Zoom (video communications) activities.
“The moment many of you have been waiting for has come,” said Mrs. Odom. “We will begin to “slowly” reopen Lakeland Senior Center beginning Monday, June 8. Not all programs will be available right away and some will be moved to IH Clubhouse to comply with social distancing.”
Mrs. Odom created a SignUpGenius page to preregister for activities. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/904054EA8AF2BAAFF2-lakeland. For those without a computer or who have questions or concerns, contact Mrs. Odom at 746-8195 or email kodom@lakelandtn.org
Space will be limited for all activities to keep everyone at a safe distance, according to Mrs. Odom. “Anyone attending an event or activity MUST preregister online. The deadline to register is two days prior to the event date.
“We are taking every precaution necessary to keep everyone safe. Guests will be required to wear masks at all times, and temperatures will be taken upon entering the building.”
Mrs. Odom said the kitchen will be off limits and no food can be brought in. “If you are here more than a couple of hours or have diabetes or other medical conditions and will need a snack, you are welcomed to bring it. Please put your name on your lunch or snack and give to a staff member if it needs to go in the refrigerator. Otherwise, there will be a designated area for lunches. Staff will gladly retrieve your lunch when you are ready for it. You are encouraged to bring your own drink tumbler. Limited drinks will be available and served by staff.”
The guidelines are strict, said Mrs. Odom. “Just remember, this is temporary. It’s is the best we can do to reopen LSC under the current circumstance. Hopefully COVID-19 will all be behind in the near future. Your understanding and patience through these unprecedented times is appreciated.”
