The City of Lakeland is calling on its residents to step forward and make a difference by joining the Community Advisory Board (CAB). Currently, there are open positions for four of the eight districts, offering a unique opportunity for community members to actively participate in local governance and help shape the future of their neighborhoods.
The open positions are as follows:
- District 1: For residents living north of the CSX railroad (north Lakeland)
- District 5: For residents living north of I-40, south of Memphis-Arlington, and east of Seed Tick, including neighborhoods such as Oakwood, The Grove, Oakwood Grove, and Heron’s Ridge.
- District 6: For residents living north of Highway 64, south of I-40, and west of Canada Road. This includes residents in Stonebridge or near the Lakeland Golf and Paddle Club.
- District 8: For residents living between Cobb Road, Monroe Road, Chambers Chapel Road, and Highway 64, encompassing the neighborhoods of Bentbrooke Hills and Plantation Oaks.
Other district representatives include:
- Kimberly Rossie (Vice-Chair, District 2): lakelanddistrict2rep@gmail.com
- Jason Valentine (District 3): jvalentinelakelandcab@gmail.com
- Ben Ledsinger (District 4): bledsinger@ssr-inc.com
- Megan Pope (District 7): lakelandcab7@gmail.com
If you are a Lakeland resident living in one of the available districts and are interested in volunteering, you can complete the online volunteer application available on the city’s website. The City Manager will follow up with applicants and present the applications for approval and appointment by the Board of Commissioners.
The CAB, established as a volunteer board by the elected Board of Commissioners, is designed to inform the Board of Commissioners on matters affecting all Lakeland neighborhoods. The key objectives of the CAB are to improve communication between residents and city leadership, engage the community on important concerns, learn more about city governance, and provide input directly from each district regarding the allocation of city resources.
A meeting with Brent Taylor is scheduled for August 13th at City Hall. The focus will be on crime and efforts to address it in the Memphis area, drawing from Mr. Taylor’s recent initiatives as a state senator in Nashville.
