The holiday season took on a special meaning for a Lakeland school crossing guard yesterday (12.21.18).
Tammy Cartwright of Lakeland is a school crossing guard for both LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) and LES (Lakeland Elementary School).
As school finished for the holiday season she was showered with gifts and well wishes from students, parents and passers-by.
“I would like to tell everyone at the Lakeland schools, parents, kids and the community of Lakeland: Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts, smiles and waves.
“You all have blessed me so very much through the year. May God bless each and every one of you this Christmas season and in our New Year to come.”
She received handmade farm animal ornaments and a stocking full of goodies and homemade treats. “I had parents get out of their cars giving me hugs while giving me gifts. And lots of military members pass at the middle school and I have received Starbucks gift cards. And they don’t have any kids at either of the schools. I even had one parent that made me and my family dinner to take home.”
She is known to students as “Mrs. Tammy” and considers herself to be their “friendly school crossing guard.”
Mrs. Cartwright and her husband Joe live in north Lakeland on what they call “Tammy’s Little Farm.” It is a six-acre home site complete with exotic animals such as a zebra, donkey, llama, emus and deer.
