On May 19th, hundreds attended and were delighted to hear and see the Memphis Symphony Big Band perform at the Delta Blues Winery last Sunday evening. The temperature was just what the doctor ordered with delicious food truck options amidst a natural backdrop. The inaugural event conceived by the Lakeland Arts Council was a tremendous success by all accounts. Some attendees remarked: “Best night out in a long time,” “It was a wonderful evening,” and “super fun night to kick off summer break.” Amanda Paule LAC board member commented, it was wonderful for “students (Lakeland Prep orchestra and band students) to be able to come witness first-hand how they could take their skills into adulthood. Additionally, how wonderful is it that we were able to provide an event where so many elementary age children were able to play in a space immersed in big band music. What an elevated addition to the already family-friendly culture of Lakeland.”
The Lakeland Arts Council wanted to reiterate that this dream event was made possible through generous contributions of local sponsors. The LAC and Memphis Symphony have more plans for collaboration and look forward to the Fall. The LAC has also been active in collaborating other events such as Opera Memphis coming to Lakeland Prep for International Night and of course the second annual Lakeland Arts Festival scheduled for October 26th.
The LAC also wants to highlight that board members Megan Dupuy and Jim Holcomb also played huge roles in the organization alongside Mrs. Paul since each member fulfils integral positions and have immeasurable importance to this organization. These events just don’t happen without them. Updates for events can be seen at LakelandTnArts.com, and on their Facebook and Instagram accounts. It is safe to say “A Night of Enchantment” was just a taste of more thing to come.
