Applications for the youth voice platform were open to all high school students in the County.   Two students were selected from each Shelby County Commission District and the position requires a weekly time commitment for a year.   The SCYC was formed through a partnership between Bridge Builders CHANGE Fellows with Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and the Shelby County Commission.

Mick Wright, Shelby County Commissioner for District 3, confirmed Miss Wright’s appointment.

Goals of the SCYC include:

  • Gathering youth input and amplifying youth voice from all parts of Shelby County
  • Creating innovative solutions to persistent community challenges identified by both youth and adult county leadership
  • Increasing youth engagement across Shelby County
