A first place award was earned by the Lakeland Youth Cheer Team Sunday (1.27.18) at the Landers Center, Southaven.
Wendi Haley, recreation program supervisor for Lakeland Parks and Recreation, said the 16 girls, ages 6-11, won first place in the Traditional Recreation category at the WSA (Worldwide Spirit Association) competition.
This is the first year for competitive cheer in the City and the team is coached by Madeline Michelotti with Memphis Pride All Star Cheer & Dance.
“The competitive team began training in August last year and has worked hard to get ready for their third and last competition of the season,” said Ms. Haley. “Our goal is to provide a beginner competitive feeder program for the middle school and to introduce the competition atmosphere.”
Tryouts and registration for next season will begin in March for ages 6-11.
